Design & Build Process

When working with our clients Green Seam Designs follows an established process to make sure your furniture exceeds quality expectations and project timelines.

We work with both design professionals and individual clients. Our Custom Furniture Design Process and Milestones Timeline can be tailored to fit any project.

Custom Furniture Design Process:

Initial Meetings

  • In-house, on-site, virtual, or phone meeting to discuss project scope

  • Time to measure and discuss each room and each piece of furniture in that room

  • Talk about phases in which the project will be completed and timeline of furniture install

  • A good time for GSD to give professional opinion on furniture design and material selection early in the process

Detailed RFQ (Request For Quote)

  • Detailed client/project information: Client/Project Name, Client/Project Address

  • Detailed information for each piece of furniture (the fewer TBDs the better)

  • Inspiration photos and/or drawings of each piece of furniture (large photos and/or drawings, no thumbnail images)

  • Floor plans and elevations for location of each piece of furniture (showing electrical outlets, HVAC registers, lighting, etc.)

GSD provides Cost & Yardage estimates

  • Estimated price will be provided from information in RFQ (if design or information changes during the project this will affect the price)

  • Estimated yardage/SQFT will be provided from information in RFQ (if design or information changes during the project this can affect the yardage/SQFT)

  • Timeline will be given in “weeks out” from time of deposit

Client provides detailed Purchase Order & Deposit

  • PO will include all information from RFQ with now estimated price

  • This should be a document on which GSD can build a finished piece from (provide large drawings and design inspiration photos)(proper sidemark to be confirmed)

  • Fabric or leather selection information will be provided. Fabric treatment to be detailed

  • 50% deposit will solidify your projects place in the GSD queue

Pre-build meeting & email correspondence

  • A meeting/correspondence to discuss all the finer details and anything that GSD finds missing on the PO

  • GSD to provide design/shop drawings to be approved or red-lined

  • Changes should be very small details that are supported by information discussed or provided previously (details like comfort levels, thicknesses, and GSD recommendations)

  • Purchaser to provide status of materials ordered (COM/COL) and tracking/estimated arrival

We have everything we need!

  • With all the information gathered GSD can start the project without any further questions

  • GSD will not start to build without materials in hand. Including COM/COL and any finish samples that are needed for matching

Milestones Timeline:

1. GSD to send an invoice for deposit to Client

  • Once origination P.O. is received GSD will send a detailed invoice for the 50 % deposit needed to secure a place in our schedule.

2. Client to send a deposit check for furniture

  • Once received, GSD will add projects to the schedule.

3. Receive P.O. with all finishes and materials selected for furniture

  • We may have already received drawings and images of the pieces you would like us to build, but it would be great to just have a final list with all the details you are expecting from us.

  • Please send any finish samples to match for furniture at this stage.

4. GSD to send design drawings & finish material samples

  • Once detailed P.O. is received, we will start and complete modeled/dimensioned drawings and send them for approval.

  • GSD will start ordering materials to have in stock to start production once drawings are approved.

5. Shop drawings to be completed for GSD production

  • Once design drawings are approved detailed shop drawings will be started for GSD production teams.

  • These can be sent to Client if you would like, but nothing should have changed from the design drawings.

6. GSD production and completion of furniture

  • Once shop drawings are finished and approved, we will start production and work to complete everything for specified deadlines.

  • When completed, pieces of furniture will be picked up by Client or delivered by GSD.
